The MPO to LC Multimode Fiber Cable is a pre-terminated breakout cable that connects a multi-fiber MPO/MTP interface with individual LC duplex connections in multimode fiber networks. It is used to interface MPO-based cabling with equipment, patching systems and fiber distribution points that use LC duplex ports.

Jacket Options
LSZH, OFNP and PVC jacket options are available according to the installation requirement.
Cable Length
Overall cable length can be specified according to the required connection distance.
Breakout Length
Breakout length can be specified separately where a defined fanout position is required.
MPO Fiber Count and LC Breakout
The MPO fiber count determines the corresponding LC duplex breakout configuration.

For a full-fiber duplex breakout, each LC duplex uses two fibers. The active channel count may vary according to the connected equipment.
Connector & Polarity Matching
MPO/MTP Interface: The MPO/MTP interface is configured to match the mating connector specified for the fiber link.
MPO Pinning: Pinned or unpinned MPO configurations can be matched to the mating interface to ensure proper mechanical alignment.
LC Duplex Interface: The LC duplex side provides individual UPC-polished connections for equipment or patching interfaces.
Polarity Matching: Type A, Type B or Type C polarity is configured according to the required fiber mapping of the connected MPO system.
Pre-Production Confirmation: The connector and polarity configuration can be confirmed against the existing MPO interface or project specification before production.
Optical Performance
Assembly Insertion Loss: The MPO-to-LC cable assembly is specified with an insertion loss of ≤0.35 dB for the applicable configuration. This value represents the optical loss contribution of the finished assembly and can be included as an individual component in the link loss budget.
Link Loss Assessment: For a complete MPO-to-LC connection, the total optical loss also includes the mating MPO interface, LC connections and other connectorized components in the optical path. The cable assembly specification should therefore be evaluated together with the loss budget of the complete link.
Quality Control
100% Optical Testing: Each finished cable assembly undergoes 100% insertion loss and return loss testing before shipment to verify the optical performance of the completed assembly.
3D Geometry Inspection: MPO/MTP connector geometry is verified by 3D interferometer inspection, including key ferrule parameters such as fiber height, radius of curvature and apex offset.
End-Face Inspection: Connector end faces are inspected for surface condition and contamination before shipment to reduce contamination-related connection problems.
Individual Test Documentation: Optical test data for the completed cable assembly can be provided according to the inspection requirements of the order.
RFQ Configuration Review
MPO-to-LC assemblies combine several interface and dimensional requirements that need to correspond with the intended optical connection.
For RFQs, DIMI can review the submitted fiber count, connector configuration, polarity, cable length and breakout requirements before production.
Where the existing MPO interface or equipment configuration is available, the relevant connection information can be included with the RFQ for configuration review.
FAQ
Q: What is the difference between an MPO and an MTP connector?
A: MPO is the standardized multi-fiber connector interface, while MTP is a branded version of the MPO connector family. The required interface should be matched to the connector used in the existing fiber system.
Q: Can an MPO to LC cable connect an MPO trunk cable directly to LC equipment?
A: Yes. An MPO-to-LC breakout cable provides a connection between a multi-fiber MPO interface and individual LC duplex ports. The fiber count, connector configuration and polarity must correspond with the existing trunk and equipment configuration.
Q: Can an MPO to LC multimode cable be selected based on transceiver speed alone?
A: No. The transceiver's physical interface, optical type, fiber configuration and polarity must be considered together. A higher transmission speed does not by itself determine whether an MPO-to-LC multimode assembly is compatible with the intended optical link.
Q: Can MPO to LC breakout cables be used when upgrading an existing data center cabling system?
A: Yes. MPO-to-LC breakout assemblies can be used as an interface between an existing MPO-based backbone and LC-based equipment during cabling upgrades or migration projects. The existing trunk fiber count, polarity, connector configuration and equipment interface should be checked before replacement or extension work.
Q: Are LSZH and OFNP jacket options available for MPO to LC fiber cables?
A: Yes. LSZH and OFNP jacket options are available for installations where the cable construction must meet specified low-smoke or plenum requirements. The required jacket should be selected according to the applicable installation requirements.
Q: What information should be provided when requesting an MPO to LC fiber cable quotation?
A: The RFQ should include the required fiber type, fiber count, polarity, cable length, breakout length, jacket type and quantity. Information about the mating MPO interface or connected equipment can also be provided when configuration compatibility needs to be confirmed.
Q: What is the standard lead time for bulk MPO to LC fiber cable orders?
A: The standard lead time is 7–15 working days. Expedited service can be discussed for urgent data center projects and time-sensitive orders.
