Polarity & Gender Options

MPO assemblies are available in male and female configurations. Male MPO connectors include guide pins for alignment, while female connectors are supplied without guide pins.

Supported polarity configurations include Type A, Type B, and Type C, allowing the cable assembly to be matched to the selected transceiver, cassette, adapter, or structured cabling architecture. Polarity should be confirmed from the project BOM before production because an incorrect polarity configuration can prevent correct transmit/receive channel mapping.

Cable Construction

The cable uses OM5 50/125 μm multimode optical fiber with a compact multi-fiber construction suitable for high-density routing. Jacket selection is based on installation environment and applicable fire-safety requirements.
Available constructions include:

LSZH: For applications requiring low smoke and halogen-free materials.

PVC: For general indoor installations where permitted.

OFNR / OFNP: For installations subject to U.S. riser or plenum cable requirements.

Armored: For applications requiring additional mechanical protection.

Cable diameter, tensile strength, bend performance, and jacket color can be specified according to the selected cable construction and project requirements.

Data Center Applications

The OM5 MPO cable is suitable for high-density short-reach optical interconnections, including:

Data center switch-to-switch and switch-to-server links

Storage Area Networks (SAN)

High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters

Rack-to-rack and cabinet-to-cabinet backbone connections

Structured fiber distribution systems

40G, 100G, 200G and selected 400G short-reach architectures using compatible multimode optics

OM5's wideband characteristics are particularly relevant to multi-wavelength transmission around 850–950 nm, including SWDM-based applications.

Testing & Quality Assurance

Each assembled cable can be tested according to the ordered specification. Quality control includes:

01/

MPO end-face inspection to identify contamination, scratches, pits, and other connector-end defects.

02/

Insertion loss and return loss testing for assembled channels.

03/

Polarity verification against the specified Type A, B, or C configuration.

04/

Visual and dimensional inspection of connectors, boots, jackets, and cable assemblies.

05/

Test documentation supplied according to the project or batch requirement.

06/

Individual test results can be provided for production orders requiring traceable optical performance records.

Customization & OEM

OEM production is available for project-specific MPO cable requirements. Customization can cover fiber count, cable length, MPO connector type, polarity, jacket material, cable construction, labeling, packaging, and optical performance grade.

Standard configurations typically ship within 3–5 business days. Custom production is generally scheduled according to order quantity, configuration complexity, and material availability. Engineering support can be provided for BOM review and compatibility confirmation before production.

Packaging & Delivery

MPO assemblies are individually protected against dust, bending, and mechanical damage during handling and transportation. Standard bulk or project packaging can be arranged according to cable quantity and shipping requirements.

For international B2B orders, delivery can be arranged by air, sea, or express courier according to order volume, destination, and required delivery time. Export packaging, product labels, packing lists, and other shipment documentation can be prepared according to customer requirements.

FAQ

Q: Is OM5 MPO cable compatible with OM3 and OM4 systems?

A: OM5 cable can operate with compatible multimode transceivers and passive components designed for the same optical interface. However, using OM5 cable in an OM3/OM4 link does not automatically provide OM5-specific bandwidth or SWDM capability. The complete link should be checked before substitution.

Q: Can you provide a sample before a bulk order?

A: Yes. Samples can be produced for configuration and compatibility verification before volume production. Sample charges and freight are normally quoted separately and may be credited against a subsequent bulk order subject to the agreed purchasing terms.

Q: What is the recommended cable length for rack-to-rack connections?

A: Cable length should be determined from the actual rack layout and routing path rather than selecting the shortest physical distance. Allow sufficient length for vertical and horizontal cable management while avoiding excessive slack that can obstruct high-density patching areas.

Q: How should MPO cables be handled during installation?

A: MPO assemblies should be routed without exceeding the specified bend radius or tensile load. Connectors should remain capped until installation, and the cable should not be pulled by the connector housing. Proper routing and strain relief help prevent optical performance changes caused by mechanical stress.

Q: Does an MPO connector need to be cleaned before connection?

A: Yes. MPO end faces should be inspected and cleaned before mating, even when the connector appears visually clean. Contamination can increase insertion loss or affect channel performance. For repeated field connections, an MPO-specific cleaning procedure and inspection process should be used.

Q: Is there a minimum order quantity for OM5 MPO cables?

A: MOQ can vary according to the cable configuration and customization level. Standard assemblies can generally be ordered in small batches for project validation, while customized production is normally quoted according to quantity, materials, and manufacturing requirements.
